When TnT Productions decided to embark on converging a corporation strategy, it came with a full mantle of “takeover”! With the name now Tnt Corporation the focus is on an Africa growth strategy by maintaining what got them in this position in the first place – music production! As part of venturing into the continent, TnT Corporation has teamed up with up-and-comping Zambian producer Spinzo
The schoolboy discovered his penchant for music production quite early, by always persevering and looking to improve. Music after all involves lifelong learning and is always about monitoring one’s progress, to create art of the highest standard (or grade for that matter). We asked Spinzol about his musical come up, development of the Zambian music industry, his partnership with Tre and TnT Corporation among other things.
Lavatory Records: Who is Spinzol and how did you come up with the name?
Spinzol: Spinzol is known as Mike Chishala by birth name. I’m aged 18 years of age. I live in Zambia, Lusaka (Matero and Chunga) and I live in a family of two. I’m currently attending school (rewriting grade 12). I’m an upcoming producer and the way I had to come up with a name like that was because of the way I make beats…it’s different to other producers . A lot of people used say, I spin the beats hard like no one ever has and that’s how I made up the name (Spinzol)! I know there is no producer with this name in my country (maybe elsewhere in the world) and my country is about to hear out how I spin the beats.
LR: How did you get started in the music game?
Spinzol: When I was 11 years old, one of my brother’s friends (Nelson) used to make beats like nobody in our area could! So I was inspired by this groove, and asked him if he could teach me how to make beats. He said yes, which made me happy at the time, but it turned out to be hard to understand everything! I never gave up though, but my teacher did due to changes in his life as he got married. The last words he said to me was,”Mike everything that you are doing here is for the better, every time you make a beat, you get better, I know you gonna have a lot of people put you down but don’t get too close to those people who don’t have value you and always believe in yourself! Always put that in mind”! That encouraged me to go on with my music, and have gotten better with every beat that I make. Now he’s proud of seeing me progress with my beats and that artists are singing along to them!
LR: What kind of music do you produce?
Spinzol: My music ranges from RnB, Dance Hall, Hip Hop and Trap Music.
LR: Who are your favourite musicians and why?
Spinzol: My role models are Eminem, NF, Dj Khaled, Marshmellow, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, EDX, Metro Booming, Dj Starsh (Zambia), Bless.k(Zambia), Kygo, Logic, Dj Snake, Major Lazer, Roberto(Zambia), B Flow(Zambia) and Slap Dee(Zambia)! These musicians are very inspirational to me.
LR: What are your views of the Zambian music industry?
Spinzol: We are moving forward with our music and some countries are starting to recognize us, which is a good thing. Coming from days when Zambian music wasn’t known, things are getting better and we are slowly getting there.
LR: Tell us how you hooked up with TnT?
Spinzol: I got to know about TnT through Ncita Delport, as I was following her on social media. I saw Tre’s picture and thought it was weird looking, but saw that he’s an artist when I had a look at his profile. I then thought to myself that; “I have to get in touch with him”! So I hit his DM and we got to know each other better, spoke about TnT Corporation and now here we are.
LR: If you had the opportunity, which artists make top of your list to collaborate with?
Spinzol: Tre Day, Eminem, NF, Nasty C, Flame, Lacrea.
LR: Is there anything you are currently working on that you wanna let us in on?
Spinzol: I got a project with Tre dropping in March. Look out for it!
